OK My Town Is Going Nuts Right Now

The Seahawks won and about half of the 1600 souls in my little town are honking horns, firing guns, lighting fireworks, yelling in the streets. The last time I saw this much public celebration around here was when Obama got Osama. It is really something to witness.

Well, good. Washington, my home, deserves to finally have some national win of any sort in the sports world. I am not a football fan, but I like the way this has generated a lift in morale for folks around here. Sort of like Christmas has been extended up here in our Far Left corner of the USA.

Hey, you draw cartoons, you can letter!

And so that's how I got roped into the pencils for this "Go Hawks!" sign for the Seattle Seahawks fans at my workplace. I don't even like football but I do like the way the Superbowl is cheering up my fellow residents of perpetual overcast in the dead of winter here. Sort of ironic this is my most recent piece of public art!

Isn't it interesting that the two teams at the Superbowl are from the only two states that legalized marijuana? Why is no one mentioning that? Curious.

Even in elevators it is impossible to escape the Seahawk frenzy around here. It is fun to see people get so excited about something. And I am not a football fan.

Wouldn't it be great if we could see this same kind of intense united energy around something like eliminating homelessness, funding public education, providing better institutional care for the forgotten developmentally disabled, seniors, mentally ill, and other marginalized populations?

That'll be the day.

Gordon's Grocery, McCleary, Washington

Apparently there is some big football game coming up, involving the Seattle Seahawks, and people seem happy and excited. I don't know who they are playing, when the game is supposed to be taking place, etc. But I do like seeing my neighbors feeling celebratory. Those are helium filled Seattle Seahawks football helmet-shaped balloons in the background. I like the fact this display is over the fruit section and not above the beer locker, but somehow I don't think the fans are going to be peeling oranges while watching the game!
