Buddy Hackett Fever

For some reason I went into kind of a strange delirium and found myself decorating the house with pictures of Buddy Hackett. This fever has passed, but now what do I do with all these Buddy portraits?

The Interstate Bridge Ghost

When I was down in Vancouver, Washington yesterday I took the opportunity to pay a visit to the  gravesite of former Vancouver Mayor G.R. Percival, thought by many to be the identity of the frequently seen Interstate Bridge Ghost.

The details of Mayor Percival's mysterious demise can be found on a post in Between the Lines.

Percival's headstone was nearly entirely covered with matted grass. After I cleared some of it off I was surprised to see his name was given as "Grove R. Percival." Most of the other sources give his first name as "Grover," the cemetery manager even wrote "Grover" on the location map he gave me. In fact, somewhere I found his full name as "Grover Reed Percival."

Yet another mystery to add to the list about this individual.

Morty Comix # 2562

Morty Comix # 2562 was placed in the rafters of a building that looks like a shelter one sits in while waiting for a bus, but in fact supposedly serves as the City Hall for the incorporated metropolis of Prescott, Oregon, population 55. I didn't see any other building that made this claim, so perhaps it is not a joke.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"The Space Needle is the most dominating feature in the skyline of Seattle. It rises to the height of 600 feet and is topped by a restaurant which revolves 360 degrees every hour. About 260 persons can be served. An observation deck is also available. From the Needle an inspiring panoramic view of Seattle and Puget Sound is featured. This dramatic photo was taken during the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the World's Fair-- 1972."

Postmarked 5 Oct. 1979. This photo makes the Space Needle look like a B-movie monster about to fight Godzilla in the Battle of Seattle. Hey, we live just across the big lake from Tokyo. It could happen.

Favorite Movie Quotes: The Paper Chase

"The study of law is something new and unfamiliar to most of you unlike any schooling you have been through before. We use the Socratic method here, I call on you, ask a you a question and you answer it, Why don't I just give you a lecture? Because through my questions you learn to teach yourselves. Through this method of questioning, answering, questioning, answering, we seek to develop in you that ability to analyze that vast complex of facts that constitute the relationships of members within a given society. Questioning and answering. At times you may feel that you have found the correct answer. I assure that this is a total delusion on your part. You will never find the correct, absolute and final answer. In my classroom there is always another question, another question to follow to your answer. As you're on a treadmill, my little questions spin the tumblers of your mind. You're on an operating table, my little questions are the fingers probing your brain. We do brain surgery here. You teach yourselves the law, but I train your mind. You come in here with a skull full of mush and you leave thinking like a lawyer."

Postcard - SeaTac, Washington

"Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The largest and busiest airport in the Pacific Northwest is also the terminus for Alaska, the Orient, Polar flights to Europe, Hawaii and all points of the U.S. The Terminal provides a complete and unique shopping area for visitors and tourists alike. Complete new facilities will be ready in 1974. Light streaks in the sky are from landing jets."

Obviously from the early 1970s. I like the Polar flights to Hawaii! Holy Detour, Batman!

In Washington State the term "Orient" is nearly extinct, and today it would replaced by "Asia" on this postcard.

One of the Most Beautifully Sad Mashups I've Seen

Steven Reed's presentation of how to microwave chili and cheese nacho dip in "Weber Cooks" is enhanced with music in such a way that it dances right on the DMZ of comedy and tragedy.  You can laugh and then feel sort of sick inside, or feel sorry for the guy then feel sort of sick inside. In either case, it is fascinating although hardly uplifting and inspiring.

Morty Comix # 2560

Morty Comix # 2560 was slipped under a fast food restaurant table. In fact, I have distributed Morty Comix under three tables and a couple chairs in this place. In extra bonus fact, all three tables pictured have been selected for Morty Comix dropoffs at some point or another, and one of them still has an issue I left awhile back.
