Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"On a sparkling winter morning in Seattle, the moon descends toward the Olympic Mountains and highlights the space needle in the foreground."

ca. 1980.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Seattle, Washington. In this aerial we see the Space Needle, most of the Seattle Center including the Coliseum, Fountain, Stadium, Exhibition Hall, and the Food Circus in the immediate foreground and in the background the new grain elevators, Elliott Bay, Magnolia District and in the distance the incomparable Olympic Mountains."

1970s. Now how many postcards do you get to see that mention the Space Needle and grain elevators in the same passage? This is a special moment.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"King County Domed Stadium. Seattle's multi-purpose stadium, the Kingdome, has a maximum seating capacity of 80,000. The Stadium houses major sporting and entertainment events, and conventions. In the background are Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains."

2nd half of the 1970s. The Kingdome was blowed up real good in 2000. YeeHaw!

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Seattle, Washington. This panoramic view, looking towards the northwest, shows the King County Domed Stadium, with a maximum capacity of 80,000, and the Downtown Business District. In the background is Seattle's waterfront and the Olympic Mountain Range."

From the mid-1970s. When that black skyscraper on the left was erected, locals called it "The box the Space Needle Arrived In."

Postcard - Olympia, Washington

"Washington State Capitol, Olympia, Washington. Aerial view of State Buildings showing Capitol Lake, Puget Sound & Olympic Mt. Range in background."

OK, so the Olympics don't actually show up in this photo, but they would if they were not cropped out. At least on a clear day.  Also, we would see the Mothball Fleet. Note the log boom past the 4th Ave. Bridge!

When this image is enlarged [just click on it], the Capitol Center Building appears to be in the final phases of construction, dating this photo to the late summer of 1965.

Postcard - Hoodsport, Washington

"Hoodsport, Washington. A bustling community of activity. Gateway to Hood Canal, Lake Cusman and the Mighty Olympics -- where the mountains meet the sea. Mt. Stone, The Brothers and Mt. Jupiter stand guardian over all."

1970s?

Hoodsport was also home to Morty Comix # 2402.

Postcard - Brinnon, Washington

"Dosewallips State Park. Located at the foot of the Olympics on scenic Hood Canal is this campers' paradise. The fresh Dosewallips River skirts the campground, and beautiful Mt. Constance overlooks it in the distance."

Looks to be from the 1970s. Shortly after graduating high school four of us went camping at Mt. Constance and were frequently visited by a persistent mountain goat with a crooked horn and an attitude that anything hanging around loose was his to take.

Postcard - Aberdeen, Washington

"Confluence of Wishkah and Chehalis River. Here is shown the bridge between Aberdeen and Cosmopolis with logs awaiting their voyage to nearby mills for processing into lumber, pulp or some other by-product. Aberdeen is the hub and shopping center for the Grays Harbor area and southern Gateway for the beautiful Olympic Peninsula."

I know this predates 1981, but probably is pre-1977 since the Wishkah Mall is not to be seen here. If you click on and enlarge the photo you can make out the Olympic Mountains on the horizon.
