Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Government Locks, Seattle, Washington. These locks offer easy access for pleasure and commercial boats between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh waters of Lake Union and Lake Washington."

1970s, with a little bit of Ballard tossed in. I lived a few blocks away for part of 1979-1980 on Market St.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Shilshole Bay and Marina, Seattle, Washington. With facilities to moor over 1,600 pleasure boats, this saltwater harbor is located near the Gov't Locks in Ballard. The canal connecting Puget Sound with Seattle's freshwater Lake Union can be seen in the distance."

1970s.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Three of Seattle's major points of interest as seen from Puget Sound are the Pacific Science Center with its beautiful arches, the 600 foot high (183 cm) Space Needle and its revolving restaurant rising above the city, and Pier 70, housing a collection of unique and interesting shops."

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"A 23 1/2 ft. (7.15 m) long, 11,000 pound (4,989 kg) Killer Whale is a rare sight in Elliott Bay, with the downtown Seattle Business District in the background. Killer Whales travel Puget Sound and Strait of Georgia waters in families (pods) of about 12 to 20 whales."

1970s, probably about the same time as the infamous Sea World incident in Budd Inlet. Orcas still occasionally go as far south as Olympia in Puget Sound.

"King County Domed Stadium. Seattle's multi-purpose stadium, the Kingdome, has a maximum seating capacity of 80,000. The Stadium houses major sporting and entertainment events, and conventions. In the background are Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains."

2nd half of the 1970s. The Kingdome was blowed up real good in 2000. YeeHaw!

Postcard - Longbranch, Washington

"Picturesque Puget Sound. While this view shows Longbranch, it is typical of the entire Puget Sound area. Hundreds of protected coves and bays provide haven for the thousands of boaters who navigate these waters every year. This view shows a few of the lucky skippers enjoying their favorite pastime. Mount Rainier stands guardian over all."

From the 1980s. You have to click on and enlarge the image to see Rainier. McNeil, Eagle, and Anderson islands are in the background. McNeil (on the left) is the home of a state prison. Anderson (on the right) was the epicenter point for our delightful 2001 earthquake.
