The "N.E. Vermont" drawing is a reference to a part of that state the locals call "The Northeast Kingdom," regarded (at least when I lived in Burlington in 1979) as a bastion of "old" Vermont the same way Grays Harbor County is regarded as a part of "old" Washington State.
This reminds that I drew a rough draft for a children's book while in Vermont. It was a story about a little dragon, I think. I left it with a small publisher somewhere in the middle of the state and then forgot all about it. Oh well.

Grays Harbor County, Fun Health Facts!
My poor county, literally. One of the last bastions of Wild West anarchy. But there is a price.
According to this health website, we ranked 36 out of Washington State's 39 counties for "Health Outcomes." But in "Health Factors" we placed dead last. Pun intended.

The Wild Russian Boars of Grays Harbor County
Remember about a dozen years ago how the proliferation of wild Russian boars
terrorizing the hills of northern Grays Harbor County was in the news?
Seattle Times 8/9/2001
I remember seeing one that had been killed and then became a guest of a taxidermist and was on display in the front window of a Montesano sports shop. The thing had tusks and was about the size of a small couch.
The Washington State Dept. of Fish and Wildlife ruled that hunters could shoot these boars any time of the year, no permit needed, according to a June 22, 2001 press release.

Anyone out there have any update on this story?

Morty Comix # 2644
Morty Comix # 2644 was left in a dead phone booth at a long dead grocery/gas mart in Satsop, Washington, a town in danger of becoming extinct, along with several other villages and municipalities in eastern Grays Harbor County, including my town, McCleary.
A local asked me what I was doing and I said I was recording places soon to be gone. Out here everyone wants to know your family connection, and I told him I was no connection to the well known dairy family around here with the same surname. My Willis family relatives migrated to Grays Harbor and Pacific counties early in the 20th century and many of them engaged in a variety of nefarious activities. I am the sole surnamed Willis left from my branch still living in either county. So I guess I should photograph myself to fit in with the rest of the subjects I capture.

James Abbott mural detail
McCleary, Washington
There is something deliciously and I'm sure unintentionally disturbing about the way he painted facial expressions in nearly all of the works he created around Grays Harbor County, although his landscape work was really good. It just adds to the surreal feeling many visitors have when visiting this zone of Washington State, Bezango WA 985.
