White Buffalo Gazette

When I was in Butler, PA last summer I had a chance to meet or re-meet local Keystone State cartoonists Tom Rehm, Buzz Buzzizyk, Wayno and Mike Hill. And Chrislip even came from the wilds of Cincinnati. In fact, I believe I even saw the mysterious Borpo Deets, who showed up at the Future Tenant show in Pittsburgh wearing an obvious ill-fitting toupee and an unintentionally humorous false beard in a comical effort to conceal his identity. He had a glow in the dark necktie that had the words. "Will you kiss in me the dark, baby?" When I looked at him and said, "Oh, you must be the infamous Borpo Deets," he swiftly made some feeble excuse about an alligator in his SUV that needed tending, darted out, and never returned to the show.

Anway, the above promo is the siren call for Obscuro cartoonists to show their stuff. All you comrade weirdo cartoonists should heed this invite. Buzz Buzzizyk has a special eye for the iconoclastic and revolutionary comic art.

Morty Comix # 2666 - Updated!

Morty Comix # 2666 is the final installment in this run of Buzz Buzzizyk enhanced Mortys. The original was sent to Buzz in Butler, Pennsylvania. Before enhancing it with color and text he made a "bootleg" practice copy (above). I know where he intended to drop off the final version of this one, but mum's da woid!

As usual, the mysterious hand of Borpo Deets is present.

This was a fun collaboration and in a way I feel like it extended my wonderful visit to Western Pennsylvania by a couple months! It has been fun seeing how Buzz has a talent for bringing the four random images together with a theme in all of these.

Morty Comix # 2664 - Updated!

Morty Comix # 2664 was sent to Buzz Buzzizyk in Butler, Pennsylvania. He souped up the original with text and color and then "distributed" it somewhere. But before he did, he made a "bootleg" copy for practice (shown above).

I don't know where Buzz placed this one, but I see he had help from the mysterious Borpo Deets.

Morty Comix # 2662 - Updated!

Morty Comix # 2662 was sent to Buzz Buzzizyk in Butler, Pennsylvania. He made a draft "bootleg" copy (above) to practice color and dialogue enhancement before enhancing the original. The final version was sent to the Kindlin' Quarterly folks in Columbus, Ohio.

It is fitting this issue should be posted today, on Halloween.

As usual, Borpo Deets lurks.

Morty Comix # 2660 - Updated

Morty Comix # 2660 was sent to Buzz Buzzizyk in Butler, Pennsylvania. Before he added color and text to the original, he made a draft bootleg copy (pictured above).  So what happened to the final version? Even I don't know. As usual, Borpo Deets lurks in the background of this piece.

Morty Comix # 2658 - Updated!

Morty Comix # 2658 was sent to Buzz Buzzizyk in Butler, Pennsylvania. He made a "bootleg" copy to practice his enhanced dialogue and color scheme (pictured above). Then he worked on the original and distributed it. I don't know what he did with the final copy of this issue. I love the text he added here!

Once again, the mysterious Borpo Deets has a hand in this. What is it with this guy? I tried to visit him when I was in western PA a few months back but never quite connected. Tom Rehm and Mike Hill (check out Mike's very nice Worker Poet blog)  who apparently know him, were constantly changing the subject whenever the name "Borpo Deets" came up.

There's a story here, but it is too cryptic for me to decipher.

I submit Deets has a hypnotic spell on Buzzizyk, Rehm and Hill and prefers to remain "the power behind the throne" of their artistic public face. Just a thought. I did catch wind that he's an older hermit guru type who actually physically recoils when puns are used in his presence. Also, I understand he basically lives on sauerkraut, calls everyone he initially meets a "douchebag," and enjoys capturing lightning bugs with his mouth.

Morty Comix # 2656 - Update!

Morty Comix # 2656 was sent to Butler, Pennsylvania, where Buzz Buzzizyk copied it and made a practice run of enhancement, creating the bootleg above. Then he made a finished copy and sent it to the most excellent cartoonist, Jim Siergey in the Chicago area!

Once again, Borpo Deets' name appears mysteriously.

"Borpo Deets. Borpo Deets. Borpo Borpo Borpo Deets."

Chant that over and over. When I do I begin to see the gate to enlightenment.

Morty Comix # 2654 - Updated

Morty Comix # 2654 was enhanced by Buzz Buzzizyk. What we see here is the original, and then the "bootleg" practice copy by Buzz. The final version was placed in an envelope marked "Mysterious artifact" and then secretly placed in the auto passenger door pocket of a Fab person in Butler, Pennsylvania. It was found in a very short time.

Notice the cryptic presence of the enigmatic Borpo Deets.

Morty Comix # 2652 - Updated

Morty Comix # 2652 was enhanced by Buzz Buzzizyk of Butler, Pennsylvania with color and word balloons. Once again the cryptic creator known as "Borpo Deets" shows up in the credits.

Buzz made a "bootleg" copy to use as practice, and then sent the final version to Robert Mankoff of the New Yorker.

Morty Comix # 2650 - Updated

Morty Comix # 2650 had been sent to Buzz Buzzizyk in Butler, Pennsylvania. He made a bootleg copy for practice (pictured above), and then distributed an enhanced original somewhere. Not sure where it finally landed, although I know he had a certain favorite buffet in mind. Heh-heh.

Hmm, I see by the signature the mysterious Borpo Deets had some hand in this as well.
