Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Seattle, Washington's downtown business district at night offers this beautiful view as seen from the top of the Space Needle."

Late 1970s. In that era catching the last bus out of downtown in the wee hours up the U District was always a trip in the Boomer sense of the word, generating lots of material for any cartoonist.

Late 1970s.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Seattle's downtown business district and the Kingdome, with snow-covered Mt. Rainier in the distance, as seen from the top of the Space Needle. Mt. Rainier is 14,410 ft. (4,395 m) high and 90 miles (144.81 km) away from Seattle."

Late 1970s probably. No later than 1980.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Seattle, Washington. Breath-taking view of the Queen City from high atop Queen Anne Hill. World famous Space Needle in the background and magnificent Mount Rainier 90 miles in the background."

1970s, maybe the first half of the decade. Yes, the word "background" was used twice in one sentence.

Late half of the 1970s, I imagine.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Seattle, Washington. This photo, taken from the Space Needle, shows the Grosvenor House in the lower left. The monorail track leads to the circular Washington Plaza Hotel. The black building is the Sea-First Bank and in the background is the multi-purpose Kingdome. On the right is a portion of the waterfront and Elliott Bay. Sixty miles to the south is Mt. Rainier."

Later half of the 1970s.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"The Space Needle, Seattle, Washington. This Seattle landmark rises to the height of 600 feet and is topped by a restaurant which revolves 360 degrees every hour. About 260 persons can be served. An observation deck and snack service is also atop the Needle for those who wish to feast mostly on the tremendous scenic panorama."

Late 1970s is my guess. No later than 1981.

"The Seattle, Washington skyline is dominated by the 600 ft. Space Needle and skyscrapers of the Downtown Business District. On the right are the beautiful arches of the Pacific Science Center, and part of the busy harbor. Majestic Mt. Rainier dominates the horizon."

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Seattle, Washington at sunset. Mount Rainier, 14,410 feet (4,395 m) high, provides a beautiful background for this view of the Seattle Downtown Business District. In the foreground is the 600 foot (183 m) Space Needle and on the right by the waterfront, is the King County Domed Stadium."

Late 1970s.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"The Downtown Business District of Seattle, Washington. The towering 600 ft. (183 m) Space Needle is seen in the foreground, the Kingdome on the right, and majestic, snow-covered Mount Rainier is clearly visible in the distance, 100 miles (160.9 km.) away."

Taken in the late 1970s or 1980, when I lived in Seattle. Such a great city. I prefer it to Portland, although I know that is not the hip way to think these days. But look at our histories and you'll see Washington is a much more progressive state.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"The towering 600 ft. (183 m) Space Needle and snow-covered 14,408 ft. (4,391.5 m) Mount Rainier dominate this view of Seattle from Kerry Park. The King County Domed Stadium and the Pacific Science Center arches are seen through the top section of Doris Chase's metal sculpture, 'Changing Form.'"

Mid to late 1970s.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"Seattle, Washington at sunset, with the 600 ft. high Space Needle in the foreground, the Kingdome and the Pacific Science Center Arches on the right, and Mt. Rainier in the background."

Taken sometime between 1976-1980. That little pointy-topped building near the center of the postcard is the Smith Tower. When I was a kid that was the tallest building on the Seattle skyline.

Postcard - Seattle, Washington

"The Space Needle is the most dominating feature in the skyline of Seattle. It rises to the height of 600 feet and is topped by a restaurant which revolves 360 degrees every hour. About 260 persons can be served. An observation deck is also available. From the Needle an inspiring panoramic view of Seattle and Puget Sound is featured. This dramatic photo was taken during the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the World's Fair-- 1972."

Postmarked 5 Oct. 1979. This photo makes the Space Needle look like a B-movie monster about to fight Godzilla in the Battle of Seattle. Hey, we live just across the big lake from Tokyo. It could happen.
