Morty Comix # 2554
Morty Comix # 2554 is one sheet. I was watching the movie Joe Kidd and thought I'd let the film pick the destination of this issue.
So naturally, I looked to see if Chicago had a street called Eastwood. It did. West Eastwood Avenue is a short street. I used Google's street view to look at it and found ...
... a company that provides music and entertainment for events like weddings! I enjoyed their website.
Early in the story, Dick Van Patten mentions the city of Chicago to Robert Duvall.

So, off to Chicago, Illinois for this little Morty Comix.
Favorite Movie Quotes: Hollywood Ending
"Well, listen, here it's been fabulous, sunny and clear every day. Oh, listen, I've got to run, I'm having another skin cancer removed."
Postcard - Olympia, Washington
"St. Peter Hospital, 413 North Lilly Road, Olympia, Washington, Phone 491-9480. The modern 12-story hospital, operated by the Sisters of Providence, was completed in January, 1971. The first S.P.H. was built in 1887 where the Totem Pole now stands on the Capitol Campus. The second one opened in July, 1924, at 420 South Sherman. St. Peter Hospital, the only hospital in Thurston County, has served the people well for over 85 years."
The card has a 1979 postmark. My daughter and nephew were born here. A parent and grandparent died here. I spent a week as a guest while recovering from surgery almost 20 years ago. Lots of other emotionally charged memories associated with this building.
Morty Comix # 2507 was hidden there.
The "totem pole" was actually a story pole by William Shelton and had to be taken down in 2010.
St. Pete's ceased being the sole hospital for Thurston County by the 1980s.

Morty Comix # 2553
Morty Comix # 2553 was placed inside a plastic bag that could be buttoned shut. Then it was hung on a blank signpost in a small patch of woods surrounded by urban Tumwater, Washington.

OK, so here's my question: How many Californians does it take to separate the girl sardines from the boy sardines? I bet that is quite a job. And what happens to the boy sardines? I didn't see any of them for sale.
Postcard - Olympia, Washington
"Olympia and Mt. Rainier, Washington. With Capitol Lake in the right foreground and majestic Mt. Rainier in the background Washington's State Capitol Buildings could not have a more beautiful setting, a short distance from Interstate 5 no visitor should miss these magnificently landscaped buildings."
I'm guessing 1978-1980. The card has written date of 12-29-80.

Jonathan Winters, 1925-2013
Hey fellow Boomers, the amazing Jonathan Winters died today. The guy was a walking and talking cartoon story narrator, complete with comic sound effects. Another person from our Newave Comix upbringing we could look up to who let us know it was OK to unlock those creative gates in our minds.
It should come as no surprise Winters studied cartooning early in his career.

Favorite Movie Quotes: Hamlet (1996)
"Sir, in my heart there was a kind of fighting,
That would not let me sleep: methought I lay
Worse than the mutines in the bilboes. Rashly,
And praised be rashness for it, let us know,
Our indiscretion sometimes serves us well,
When our deep plots do pall: and that should teach us
There's a divinity that shapes our ends,
Rough-hew them how we will,--"

Postcard - Olympia, Washington
"Olympia, Washington. Capitol Lake in the foreground with the Harbor of Olympia and picturesque Puget Sound in the background."
Mid to late 1970s is my guess given the fact the Mothball Fleet is not in the distance. The card has a 1981 date written on the reverse. Notice the half-submerged railroad trestle along Deschutes Parkway.
This unusual photographic angle of course fills my head with thoughts of HORROR so HORRIBLE that I can scarcely bear to give them utterance.

Postcard - Olympia, Washington
"Olympia, Washington. The State Capitol buildings may be seen at right center. Mt. Rainier stands as a sentinel in the distance."
1969? The present day WSDOT building looks like it is still being put together. Plus the Capitol Park Apts. have not been torn down yet.
On the left, Budd Inlet ends at the "Isthmus," while the northern portion of the Fetid Lake of Doom takes center stage. The steam plant, otherwise known as the caiman wintering area, can be seen on the shore at the right, conveniently next to the railroad tracks for regional distribution.
