The Drifters Sing Bacharach
Postcard - Salt Lake City, Utah
"Eagle Gate, looking towards State Capitol. This structure originally holding double gates, formed part of the unique cobblestone wall around the property of Brigham Young. For several years it has been preserved as a land mark, having been reconstructed of cut stone. The Eagle, originally of carved wood, has been sheathed with copper, in order that it may withstand the elements. It has no special significance to the 'Mormons,' except that they are always glad to see the outspread and protecting wings of our noble bird of freedom. The Eagle Gate stands at the head of the longest straight street in the world."

Phone photo 2949
I have been living in this house for 19 years and this is the first time moles have shared my yard. Fortunately I am not a lawn freak. When these mounds were in the back alley my cats liked to dig into these little hills and poop in them. Hopefully this time-honored tradition will continue.
My yard is currently populated by raccoons and has also played host to other wild animals such as possums, cottontail rabbits, feral peacocks, and even a porcupine.

A little ghost story from history to help set the mood for Halloween. This is from the Spokane Falls Review, March 1, 1888. The gentleman named Everett Willis in this article is no relation to me as far as I know.

The James Abram Garfield Song
James Abram Garfield
Wasn't really such a very bad guy
He would've been a good US CEO
But he didn't get much time to try
A nut named Charlie Guiteau
Went to the Prez to see him
And shot him with an ivory-handled gun
'Cause he thought it would look good in a museum
It was the docs who killed Garfield
By probing under his epiderm
With unsanitized instruments
They didn't believe in such a thing as a germ

Figuring Out George Carlson, Pt. 2 / by Paul Tumey
The 2nd part of Paul Tumey's excellent article on cartoonist George Carlson is now online at the Comics Journal. Check it out at THIS LINK!
Paul is a thoughtful researcher, a wonderful writer, but I stop short of calling him a serious comic art scholar-- he's having waaay too much fun to be serious! Take a look at his The Masters of Screwball Comics blog at THIS LINK. Great stuff.

Morty Comix # 2656 - Update!
Morty Comix # 2656 was sent to Butler, Pennsylvania, where Buzz Buzzizyk copied it and made a practice run of enhancement, creating the bootleg above. Then he made a finished copy and sent it to the most excellent cartoonist, Jim Siergey in the Chicago area!
Once again, Borpo Deets' name appears mysteriously.
"Borpo Deets. Borpo Deets. Borpo Borpo Borpo Deets."
Chant that over and over. When I do I begin to see the gate to enlightenment.

Morty Comix # 2654 - Updated
Morty Comix # 2654 was enhanced by Buzz Buzzizyk. What we see here is the original, and then the "bootleg" practice copy by Buzz. The final version was placed in an envelope marked "Mysterious artifact" and then secretly placed in the auto passenger door pocket of a Fab person in Butler, Pennsylvania. It was found in a very short time.
Notice the cryptic presence of the enigmatic Borpo Deets.
