Morty Comix # 2652 - Updated

Morty Comix # 2652 was enhanced by Buzz Buzzizyk of Butler, Pennsylvania with color and word balloons. Once again the cryptic creator known as "Borpo Deets" shows up in the credits.

Buzz made a "bootleg" copy to use as practice, and then sent the final version to Robert Mankoff of the New Yorker.

Postcard - Cleveland, Ohio

"Cleveland's Public Square, 4.4 acres in the heart of the business section. It was laid out in the original plan of the city conceived by its founder, General Moses Cleveland in 1796. The view shows the new Union Terminal Group on the southwest corner. The Soldiers and Sailors' Monument, a Civil War memorial, occupies the center of the southeast section."

1930s.

Postcard - Shaniko, Oregon

"Shaniko, Oregon. Easily most important relic in present day Shaniko is old Shaniko Hotel, prominent red brick building, middle distance. Built in 1900 as "Columbia Southern," venerable hostelry still serves resident and traveler alike. Veterans of once savage wars between cattle and sheepmen now live peacefully together in retirement. Sightseeing travelers find delicious meals served in historic surroundings. Many wagons, buggies are shown to public in open fields, under shelter and in old warehouses."

I'm going to guess 1960s.

The John Quincy Adams Song

The only President
With a "Q" in his name
Was John Quincy Adams

The only ex-President
To serve in the House
Was John Quincy Adams

A rigid old bird
Who fought hard for human rights
But in person he was sort of an asshole.

Morty Comix # 2650 - Updated

Morty Comix # 2650 had been sent to Buzz Buzzizyk in Butler, Pennsylvania. He made a bootleg copy for practice (pictured above), and then distributed an enhanced original somewhere. Not sure where it finally landed, although I know he had a certain favorite buffet in mind. Heh-heh.

Hmm, I see by the signature the mysterious Borpo Deets had some hand in this as well.

Inspired, issue one

It's sort of collage, Jack T. Chick, Hot Stuff, Lady Gaga rolled into one from our buddy D. Blake Werts. Brings me back to the Newave days.

Favorite Movie Quotes: Deadfall

"Most people like to think they have some degree of control over their lives. The truth is we're subject to the influence of others. Those who appreciate this can make a lot of money from those who don't. But any small-time grifter who ever dealt off the bottom of a deck can tell you that. What I can tell you about is the price one pays for peddling confidence. How every mark you fleece takes away a piece of your soul, and what happens when you try to pick up the pieces."

Postcard - Rainier, Oregon

"Trojan Nuclear Power Plant, Rainier, Oregon. Located on the banks of the beautiful Columbia River, separating Washington and Oregon, is this 499 foot cooling tower, landmark of this area. Trojan Nuclear Power Plant produces 1,000,000 kilowatts and is owned by Portland General Electric, Eugene Water & Electric Board, and Pacific Power & Light."

1970s.

Craig Bartlett had a great comic story using this plant as a setting in Tales From the Steam Tunnels.

The plant was decommissioned in 1993. The tower was blown up real good in 2006.

Although Rainier, Oregon is close to the site, it would be more accurate to say this postcard photo was taken near Prescott, Oregon, which where I hid Morty Comix # 2562 last April.

Morty Comix # 2648 -- Updated

Here's the original comic when it was sent to Buzz Buzzizyk in Butler, Pennsylvania

Buzz has a practice of making a trial run "bootleg" copy, which he sends to me, and then enhances the original. This issue was his first try at this game, and as we'll see when subsequent issues are posted, this one is probably the most cautious.

Buzz managed to distribute this one on a fridge in Pittsburgh. I love the fact my wonderful visit to Pennsylvania a few months back is extended in this manner!

Postcard - Portland, Oregon

"Founded in 1907 by Louis C. Wachsmuth. This unique shellfish restaurant is one the showplaces of Portland. Located on a narrow one-way street in the old business section of the city, the Oyster Bar is famous for its oyster stew and small Yaquina oysters. The two main dining rooms are decorated in knotty pine and adorned with beautiful china plates, ship models and oddities from all over the world. 208 S.W. Ankeny, Portland, Oregon, (227-5906)."

Sent to me in 1979, but the card has a 1960s look to it.

The Richard Nixon Song

It was easy to draw his face!

The George Washington Song

George Washington
Was number one,
Not number two or number three.

"Being shot at without result"
Was his idea of fun.
He was the Father of our Country.

He had his quirks and feet of clay,
From the elite he drew smirks.
But at the end of the day
George Washington
was number one.

Postcard - Eugene, Oregon

Morty Comix # 2674

Morty Comix # 2674 was used as a bookmark (and left there) in an old Reader's Digest in the waiting room of my eye doctor in Olympia. The article was entitled, "Are You Normal of Nuts?"

The Belmonts Sing Bacharach

Doo-wop meets Bacharach at Christmas in someone's living room.

And you know, in a weird way, it works.

Postcard - Depoe Bay, Oregon

"Depoe Bay, Oregon. Overlooks rockbound bay and picturesque cave-harbor. Spouting horns, marine gardens, caves and colorful shore. Unexcelled deep-sea fishing. Annual Fleet of Flowers Ceremony, Memorial Day, every year."
