How Would You Like to Join This "Bunch"?
From the Clayton News-Letter, Aug. 15, 1912. It is unusual to find local cartoonists published in weekly newspapers in any era. Paul Weeks was 18 or 19 years old when he drew this. Mr. Weeks now qualifies as an official fellow Washington State Obscuro cartoonist!
I can't make out the word balloons of the bystanding bird and farmer, but the driver is declaring, "We're going huckleberrying!" A passenger notes the old farmer at the fence and observes, "I bet that fellow wishes he was goin' to."
At the rear of the wagon someone is singing, "Do, do, do, a huckleberry do!" And another, with rifle in hand, shouts, "I'm goin' to kill a bear!"
Man, I loved picking and eating huckleberries around here in the woods when I was growing up. The bushes were frequently found growing out of Old Growth stumps. And once in awhile I would run into a black bear after the same delicacy, so I would just let them be and move on. The huckleberries here are red and tart.

Goodbye to Apollo's Pizza
One of my fave pizza places has closed up, I am sorry to say. Apollo's on Olympia's Westside made some of the best pizzas I have ever had. I even hid a couple Morty Comix there as well as phone photoed a discarded portable dental floss by their front door, so the joint had some history here on Morty the Blog.
This picture was taken a year ago when I hid a Morty Comix in that bench facing the camera.
Thanks for all the good memories, Apollo's. One of my best recollections was around 2007 when there was a bad storm and the power went out. Ian had a bicycle helmet headlamp he lent to you guys so you could continue working in the kitchen since the ovens remained hot and we all ate by candlelight.

What an amazing place Greece must be. It is somewhat disconcerting that Morty the Dog has actually been there while I remain stateside. I would love to visit someday.

Morty Comix # 2666 - Updated!
Morty Comix # 2666 is the final installment in this run of Buzz Buzzizyk enhanced Mortys. The original was sent to Buzz in Butler, Pennsylvania. Before enhancing it with color and text he made a "bootleg" practice copy (above). I know where he intended to drop off the final version of this one, but mum's da woid!
As usual, the mysterious hand of Borpo Deets is present.
This was a fun collaboration and in a way I feel like it extended my wonderful visit to Western Pennsylvania by a couple months! It has been fun seeing how Buzz has a talent for bringing the four random images together with a theme in all of these.
