Moonshine: How It Works

A diagram I drew under my Dad's expert supervision about how to make moonshine. He built an authentic still as a display for the McCleary Museum many years ago. He's gone but his exhibit is still with us to this day. Illegal booze was a very big part of the history of McCleary, Washington.

The Willis family were involved in the trade both in Dickenson County, Virginia and Pacific County, Washington. Dad served as a lookout for his older brothers in Virginia.

Space Cat

An enormous drawing probably made in the 1990s. I left it down at the local United States Post Office last Sunday. Exactly why and when it was originally produced, I cannot recall.

Dylan Williams

Sad news from The Beat that Portland cartoonist Dylan Williams lost his battle with cancer.

I had met Dylan at the last couple Oly Comix Fests. A nice guy and wonderful cartoonist. He was one of the official Morty the Blog followers.

Theme Park of Terror!!!

I visited one of these in 1979 in Quebec. Seeing a giant Fred Flintstone running around and speaking in French as he horrified small children was a disjointing experience.

Note how Barney and Fred are about to steamroll over that little guy! The addition of Dino gives the place a Jurassic Park edginess.

Steve Stwalley Package of Comix!

Last month I found a big packet of comix in my PO Box from Minneapolis cartoonist Steven Stwalley. You might recognize his name as the cover artist to both Morty the Blog jams We Rode With the Clowns and Terminal.

Great stuff in here! Follow the link to his name for more info. I especially liked the one-of-kind 100% Genuine Counterfeit Morty Comix # 2,368,147 ("I've got more issues than a psychopath!")

This will all be donated in turn to the Washington State University Comix Collection. Many thanks Steven!

At Matt Groening's Front Door

Here's a photo of yours truly taken by Steve Layton in the Fall of 1974. The door in the background opened into the room of my neighbor, Matt Groening, at The Evergreen State College.

Pee-Chee Memories

The Pee-Chee was standard equipment all through my schooling in the 1960s and early 1970s. The manila card stock folder never varied in design from year to year.

In a drawing I made while bored in the back row in Mr. Heay's 7th grade home room at Washington Jr. High in Olympia, Washington, you can see I visually documented the ever-present Pee-Chee in the classroom landscape.

I'm not sure how many years I used the same Pee-Chee, but it was at least three since I recall I had the thing all the way through the years at Olympia High School (grades 10-12 in those days). It might even date back to junior high, but I can't recall.

As you can see, Pee-Chees were designed to be disposable. The original design had been completely obliterated within a very short time. I retired the thing when I began college.

What's My Line? The Missing Piece

When I posted my What's My Line? series a few months ago, I noted one was missing. It surfaced during the studio cleanup.

This line was submitted by an OlyBlogger known as Spareshoes.
