Morty Comix # 2648 -- Updated

Here's the original comic when it was sent to Buzz Buzzizyk in Butler, Pennsylvania

Buzz has a practice of making a trial run "bootleg" copy, which he sends to me, and then enhances the original. This issue was his first try at this game, and as we'll see when subsequent issues are posted, this one is probably the most cautious.

Buzz managed to distribute this one on a fridge in Pittsburgh. I love the fact my wonderful visit to Pennsylvania a few months back is extended in this manner!

Postcard - Portland, Oregon

"Founded in 1907 by Louis C. Wachsmuth. This unique shellfish restaurant is one the showplaces of Portland. Located on a narrow one-way street in the old business section of the city, the Oyster Bar is famous for its oyster stew and small Yaquina oysters. The two main dining rooms are decorated in knotty pine and adorned with beautiful china plates, ship models and oddities from all over the world. 208 S.W. Ankeny, Portland, Oregon, (227-5906)."

Sent to me in 1979, but the card has a 1960s look to it.

The Richard Nixon Song

Richard Milhous Nixon
Resigned in disgrace
The best thing about him?
It was easy to draw his face!

The George Washington Song

George Washington
Was number one,
Not number two or number three.

"Being shot at without result"
Was his idea of fun.
He was the Father of our Country.

He had his quirks and feet of clay,
From the elite he drew smirks.
But at the end of the day
George Washington
was number one.

Morty Comix # 2674

Morty Comix # 2674 was used as a bookmark (and left there) in an old Reader's Digest in the waiting room of my eye doctor in Olympia. The article was entitled, "Are You Normal of Nuts?"

The Belmonts Sing Bacharach

Doo-wop meets Bacharach at Christmas in someone's living room.

And you know, in a weird way, it works.

Postcard - Depoe Bay, Oregon

"Depoe Bay, Oregon. Overlooks rockbound bay and picturesque cave-harbor. Spouting horns, marine gardens, caves and colorful shore. Unexcelled deep-sea fishing. Annual Fleet of Flowers Ceremony, Memorial Day, every year."

Figuring Out George Carlson, Pt. 1 / by Paul Tumey

Our friend Paul Tumey of the Screwball Comics blog has just appeared in a Comics Journal column in the first of a two-part series rediscovering the work of cartoonist George Carlson:

Check it out at THIS LINK

Great work, Paul!

This photo was taken from the Oregon side. Driving on this bridge can get pretty exciting when the wind is kicking up.

Morty Comix # 2671

Morty Comix # 2671 was drawn on my half-swept driveway using special Spongebob Squarepants chalk. It felt quite prehistoric to be doing this, and I realized the image was a bit on the basic/primal side. Hard to draw much detail with the implements and "canvas" on hand. By the next day our famous Washington State rain washed it completely away. When the rain returns after a dry summer we Mossbacks are happy.
