Here's some of the comic art related photos I captured at the 130th American Library Association Conference in New Orleans a few days ago. I was too busy with my job assignment to attend any of the comic related presentations, but I did get a chance to briefly chat with most of the exhibitors.
Alexis Fajardo
Carla Speed McNeil
Neither one of these nice people is David Hutchinson.
I believe the gentleman is Brian Denham.
Rod Espinosa
Darren Gendron
Jim Ottaviani
Jim was the only cartoonist I met there who seemed aware of the role of the Newave comix movement in comic art history. Perhaps Michael Dowers needs to start showing up at ALA.
Ben Hatke

Nice to see the influx of comics at the "Library Convention"!
ReplyDeleteI actually met Carla McNeil here in Charlotte at the Heroes Convention in early June. I generally don't look at material that is presented in such a polished manner, however, hearing her chatting with another, the vocabulary she was using, stopped me in my tracks. So intrigued I bought one of her FAT volumes to enjoy. Very good work. I'll seek more of her work out soon.
I blogged about meeting Ben Hatke on June 30 and posted some of his original illustrations! : http://librarieslearnlead.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great link Hayley! You might be interested to know the Youngstown, Ohio area holds an important place in Newave comix history, including being the hometown of comix artist/historian Bruce Chrislip.
