The Vashon Bicycle in the Tree: Why Has It Gone Viral?

My post about the Vashon bike in the tree has been around for over 6 months, but suddenly the hits on this thing have gone ballistic, giving this blog a record high in visits.

Why? Now?

  1. My own post on this same tree (http://dangblog.wordpress.com/2008/06/10/bike-tree/) went crazy beginning in September, 2010 when cracked.com linked to my blog. Every once in a while it goes nuts again. Maybe they linked to you, too, or someone else has. Another site called stuffyoucanuse linked to it as well.

Bikes in trees! The secret to blog-o-sphere popularity.

  2. Thanks! Yes, it does seem to come and go in waves. For several months that post was merely a sleeping giant. This should make us wonder what else we have hibernating in our blogs that have yet to be discovered.

  3. There is a post going around Facebook that says the bicycle was left in the tree in the 1910s by a child that went off to war, never returned, and his parents left the bicycle there as a memorial.

  4. All of this attention makes me wish I taken more photos of the tree when I visited Vashon last summer. But I am still perplexed as to why this particular topic has grabbed so much interest. And why now? I have plenty of other posts covering the strange, bizarre, and unusual, but the Vashon posts have escalated the hit rate on this blog way beyond my expectations. Most interesting and educational.
