The Rise and Fall of Morty the Dog
1st edition, 1987, Seattle, Washington : Starhead Comix, 200 copies. white gloss cover, regular digest size.
2nd edition, 1992, Ocean Shores, Washington : Starhead Comix, white cover, regular digest size.
1st Danger Room Reprint edition, August 2005, McCleary, Washington : [The Fool on the Hill]. 5 copies (4 red, 1 blue), regular digest size.
When Michael Dowers published the 2nd edition he gave the outside covers a bit of red and changed the content of the inside and outside back cover. I must've drawn "Famous Taxi Scene" sometime between 1987 and 1992.
Hey, here's an eyeball joke I posted on OlyBlog last month. Apparently only pupils of puns get this one:
I know this rich guy named Arthur. He has a morbid fear of going blind. So he buys eyeballs to keep in stock at the eye bank just in case. He has so much money he can afford to hire a group of people just to take care of his stored eyeballs. They have a special room only they can enter, and on the door it says: "Arthur Eyes Personnel Only"

ReView v. 14, no. 3 (June 5, 1993)
The cartoonists issue of The Evergroove State College alumni folks. Includes profiles of Michael Swofford, Morty the Dog, Craig Bartlett, Charles Burns, Lynda Barry, Matt Groening, and Young Harvill. I didn't know Swofford, Bartlett was after my time, I remember Burns and Harvill pretty well as they were already public figures on campus but I'm sure they don't remember me. Marge Brown and I were co-workers when I worked at Evergreen's library 1986-1988. Matt and Lynda I knew as fellow students 1974-1977 and have watched their post-TESC careers with fascination.
An updated version of this issue would have to include many more names since Evergroove has now become an academic destination point for budding cartoonists.

Part 3 includes interviews with Edward Bolman, Cat Noel, Jeff Zenick, Larned Justin, Buzz Buzzyzik/Maximum Traffic/Borpo Deets.

Nice work, John! I salute you. This is a slice of first-person comix history that might otherwise have been lost without your efforts.

Hegel & Jekyll Original Art in Mortyshop, ca. 1983-1985
Retreads 14
1st edition, December 2005, 25 copies, white cover, regular digest size.
The final issue of this series so far.
There is a strong possibility there will be no issues in the near future for couple reasons. First, I have not been very active as a cartoonist in the last few years. Retreads was a place where I gathered up my comix work that has been published hither and yon. Since 2005 my showbiz energy has been more in the text arena: online at OlyBlog and in hardcopy at Olympia Power and Light.
Secondly, I stopped keeping bibliographical track of my work after October 2007. Since I'm a professional catalog librarian by profession, naturally I kept a running list of all my work for decades. But in 2007 I decided to stop in order to present future bibliographers who give a damn the joy of the hunt for locating the work of my senior years as I slide down the back forty toward oblivion. Hint for an obscuro one: toggle on the logo at the online The Jim and Frank Podcast to catch fellow Washingtonian Pat Moriarity and myself.
