Stevetreads # 1

1st edition, 1987, Chico, California : Jeff Nicholson. 3 copies, regular digest size.

That's right, only 3 copies.

The hopefully-not-really-retired-from-comix-for-life cartoonist Jeff Nicholson, creator of Ultra Klutz, Through the Habitrails, Colonia, and Father and Son published a 4-issue short run of this "bootleg" Stevetreads series to fill out his own collection.

I believe everything in this first issue has already been scanned and posted here in various places.

We'll be seeing quite a bit of Jeff's work down the road when I reach the part of the backlog containing our Ultra Klutz jam.

Hmm, I see a cat hair got into the scan of the final page. That makes it a cat scan, right? I guess I should've stopped the machine by hitting the paws button. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

  1. Good Lord, -choke-! I innocently clicked on your link to Jeff, as I hadn't heard much from him recently, and spent the next hour going through that long bio page, fascinated by all he has done. Then even clicked on the link to read the full "Small Press Tirade", which I thought I had gotten, but must have forgotten. Amazed to see the volume of work he has done, but sad to see how it never really did what he wanted as far as success. But DAMN, the man has been DRAWING! And now doing animations! Are the rest of us just sitting around with our thumbs up our butts? Makes me want to quite sleeping to try to get more done, I feel like such a slacker after looking at all that. However, I'm old, it's 1:25am, and I'm off to sleepy land. (And he just confirmed my own prejudices: whenever asked who I think the best are in small press and minis, Willis & Bolman are my top two, too. And now Ted's stuff is starting to pop up again, and even the Will is back. Hurray!)

  2. For those of you not in the know, far from being a slacker Brad is easily the most prolific cartoonist associated with the Newave era and whatever amazing energy he doesn't apply to drawing comix goes to networking with and helping other cartoonists. And, 1:25 is waaaaay past bedtime for us old guys. Instead, it should asleep by 8, be up at 4 or 5, and the best part of the day is over by 7 am in my book.
